A friend of mine had problems with his antenna mast on his '93 vette, and then the cable broke inside, so we pulled the assembly apart, removed the broken cable from the wheel housing, lubed up the housing, remounted the power antenna unit and then installed a new antenna mast.
the problem is that after the mast was installed, it does not quite go down all the way.. stops maybe an inch or so from being flush like it should. goes up fine, retracts fine until that point and then stops.
any advice? has anyone else seen this issue after replacing the mast?
Did you take the motor housing apart and take out the broken ribbon? If not, you'll probably have to. If you did, did you put the washer back correctly and not overtighten the nut?

yes we took the housing apart and removed the old cable. not sure about the washer or nut.
On my 95 the mast would not go down all the way (stuck up several inches). So I replaced (just removed the old mast without removing the motor). On feeding in the new mast you rarely get it right the first time--will probably stick up an inch or so. I solved by continuing to feed and push the mast down while turning the radio on and off. The mast will eventually seat to the right position.
The only times I've seen a replacement mast not retract/extend properly is if all the broken bits of the old mast were not removed from the motor assembly/gears.
