I have a 93 with auto a/c. when I turn the a/c on it will blow hot but the a/c clutch does not engage and cooling fan does not turn on. The fuse are fine. I drove the car 2 days before ande everythink was fine.
Are you low on refrigerant? The compressor is designed to "lock" as a self-destruct failsafe if it doesn't have enough refrigerant to operate properly.
It definitely sounds like you are low on freon. The fan will not go on unless the compressor/clutch engage. you add freon to the low pressure side. The valve attachment is on the accumulator, not far from the compressor. It should be silver in color and be about the size of a 16 oz soda bottle. Turn the engine on and let it idle, turn on the a/c to maximum cooling. Attach-add the freon with the can up side down. Should take about ten minutes too empty. As the can is emptying turn the can from the twelve o'clock to three o'clock to twelve o'clock position every 15 seconds or so. As the freon is entering the system the clutch should engage and the fan will go on. Do not use more than two cans of freon. Hope this helps.
