My '93 coupe (LT-1) was running too hot in traffic...so I bought the Hypertech 160 degree thermostat and Stage II chip at the Eckler's Show last Saturday. Anyone have suggestions on the best installation techniques..what to watch for, problems, etc... When disconnecting the battery, should you hook in one of those 9-volt adapters to keep your settings intact? Any help/advice will be appreciated.
Thanx,
RailroadMo
On the t-stat, drain your radiator first, (this is a good time to change the antifreeze.) Try not to drip any on the opti-spark, directly below the t-stat. On the chip, I havnt done that yet, but I believe that you just need to disconnect the battery. You dont want any power going to the computer when you change the chip. Good luck and please post your results.
Pretty straight forward, just follow instructions. Hypertech on my 90 was a "piggy back" chip, i.e., the stock chip plugs into the Hypertech and the assembly is installed into the ECM. This will be a fairly large assembly and you will need to carefully insert into the ECM, rotate it into place and then push onto the pins. If it is like my 90 was, you can't simply plug in through the access hole due to it's physical size.
 1990? i also have one & prom changes just require taking off the access plate & poping out the old prom & putting in a new one. just was reading the post & scratching my head about what you wrote
