Does anyone see a problem with using Advance Auto 50x50 in a 90 L98? I did a search on the subject but found nothing specific on the Advance stuff. BTW, there is some neat information about deionized water out there, here is one http://van.physics.uiuc.edu/qa/listing.php?id=5543
It's fine, just change it once in awhile. It's less expensive to buy unmixed and distilled water. I also prefer the anti-freeze that mixes with any type.
It's fine. I used some of that in my Chevy truck about a year ago without any issues. Keep in mind, that there are only a handful of antifreeze manufactures and they all have to meet specific standards.
If you don't trust it, then buy the brand you like.
Personally, I buy whats on sale and if I'm not in a hurry I'll buy my own distilled water and mix my own 50/50 mixture.
I read a mag article recently they said anti-freeze is corrosive and electrically conductive, and that straight demineralized water was better, or add some "norosion" that was the best stuff, (haven't located it yet though! LOL) and you should take the neg battery cable off and use a volt meter between the termainal and the open filler neck of the radiator, and check for small voltage? ELECTROLISIS!!!!!
and that it destroys aluminum intakes (around water filler neck)
and stuff like dat!

I read that somewhere too. I never tried it though.

If you read thru the GM service manuals for cars that use the green ethlyene glycol coolant, they usually recommend distilled water or even clean tap water.
For the later cars that use Dex Cool, they say to use jsut clean tap water as part of the mix. I would bet that most all of the vehicle manufacturers use a mix of their recommeded coolant and filtered tap water or distilled water when cooling systems are filled on the assembly line.
Demineralized water is OK to use but it may be hard to find; distilled water can be found at just about any grocery store for about a buck a gallon. Corvettes typically use about 4 gallons (maybe 18 quarts depending on the year) and if you buy 2 gallons of concentrate and 2 gallons of distilled water, it's much cheaper than buying a 50/50 pre-mix.
I dont get the same stuff over here in Australia, but i am led to believe you get Valvoline G-05 over there as well, and that is what i use in every car i ever put new coolant in. If i cant get that i use Castrol, and i only ever by concetrate in any brand.
