I only agree with other CF members when I think they are using sound and logical diagnostic judgement calls given the information provided by the OP. I never agree for the sake of "it's easier to agree"....
ok, its a month later, and he finally checks the car out. And its NOT the ignition module. We left the car running for about 20 minutes, he took it for a ride, came home, I told him to turn it off and try to turn it on......
Not turning on. Just turning over. So whats next again? Check the fuel pump? Where is that located?
Its 90 degrees outside, ready to meet some friends for lunch, when I stop somewhere first. Come back, and while backing up,my Vette stalls. No biggie, but then it won't start. It will turn over, but thats it. Starts about 10 minutes later, enough for me to pull back into a parking spot. Then it won't start again. Just got it home, thanks AAA, got it started enough to back it away from the truck. But 1 minute later, when I wanted to start it again to back it into its parking spot in my driveway, no way.
Whats wrong with this car now?
Had this same issue with a 1989 Trans Am. Turned out the distributor was shot.
Had the same problem w/volvo I had, car would start and then stall. Sometimes it would run for as much as 10 minutes. Turned out the fuel pump had a short. Have you checked your distributor for cracks or loose wire?
Well got a new fuel pump/filter in it. The tank was filled with dirt, totally had it cleaned out, fresh fuel. Runs good!! Then again, our weather was pretty nice too. This was last week.
Yesterday, thought I would take my daughter to a party about 1/2 hour away, and its about 92 degrees out. Car ran fine till I almost got there, started that "irregular running" again, dropped her off, turned the corner and......stalled!!!! Again! Guess the threat of "I will sell you if you stall on me" didn't work. But she started again, and, a miracle, ran beautiful all the way home. Think it was a burp? But wait, I'm not done. Stopped to grab some dinner for home, started up (Thank you), drove home (another 10 min), got home and noticed smoke. My rear caliper was smoking up!!!
So here we go again. Is this the pleasures of owning a Vette?
