Im in the middle of replacing the Carpet on the 96 and in the process I found out where all my clutch fluid has been going. The insulation behind the dash in the lower footwell is covered in fluid. My question is how hard is it to replace the master and should I replace anything else why I am in there? Also, any brands I should avoid. thanks
It is nto very hard at all. No special tools required except a little patience and usng the right combo of tools (extensions wrenches etc). I can't remember all the details when removing its been over a year since i had all the Mcleod master problems but removing the battery is really the only thing you need to do ( and fender of course).
Short list that I can remember..
Removed underside dash panel.
remove fender and battery.
remove clip on the master rod from inside the footwell area.
remove fluid line going into master
unbolt from firewall and remove.
Go over to zfdoc.com and see the Q/C issues on the replacement parts that GM and the aftermarket sells.
There were some issues that GM hasn't said officially if they were addressed. You may want to e-mail Bill and see what he has to say on the subject or if he has any info. The Q/C issues were not confined to just the replacement slave cylinders. There were some issues with new M/C's also.
