Please help my car idles too high, 86 auto i have to press the brakes hard to not move when sitting at the lights, i backed off the idle screw on the TBI, the car idles at about 1400 or so.
Thanks
J-P
The ECM should be controlling the idle speed via the IAC. Go through the process of setting min idle and then TPS. You may have a vac leak or your IAC may be stuck wide open.
Did this appear out of the blue ?? https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...D=55&TopicID=2
sounds like you have a bad vaccum leak somewhere..
Yep. Mine does that occassionally. Gets up to about 1400 RPMs and then you tap the gas pedal and it goes back to normal. Almost like the gas pedal is sticking. More of a annoyance than anything.
Mines's doing the same thing, I pulled the IAC valve to look at it and it's all the way in.....which appears that it's letting too much air through the throttle body causing it to idle high.
I pulled the stopper on the valve out as far as it will go, re-installed it and started the car up again...same thing. Almost like the ecm is making it open all the way up.
Everything on my car as far as TPI is brand new, all new sensors, hoses, cleaned etc.....
But it's doing exactly the same thing as your car and it's as simple as it can get with no emmissions....I guess I need to start looking for vaccum leaks.

Don't touch that damn idle screw, leave it alone!! Gah, put it back where it was! Many times a faulting TPS sensor can cause this. Test yours and make sure you are in the area of 0.54V at idle.
