I posted a thread earlier about my "really bad timing". Turns out it was the timing giving me all that trouble. However i'm back in the same situation with the distributor. I have it with the rotor facing the correct direction but I cant seem to be able to rotate it far enough to the left (its hitting the plenum) to get it stay running. When its pushed up against the plenum it will fire and run extremely rough, not good. How do I adjust the distributor so I can fix this?
Note: Oh and I thought I might mention that my cap only goes on one way.

Hitting the plenum or intake manifold? Make sure the oil pump shaft is going down correctly.
Yes the distributor is fully seated, only goes in 2 ways (Compression stroke and exhaust stroke). Its in the right way, but the cap is hitting the top of the plenum.
I suggest that you verify TDC of #1 comp stroke and then look at your distributor. Verify TDC with the spark plug out . It could very well be a bad balancer. Once you have TDC, make your own mark, and then recheck timing. You will be able to get timing close, and then change the balancer, and reset timing. That happened to my 85. The distibutor is either on or 180* out. Good Luck.
