Default need tuning advise

i am stuck here. i already have an older style, piggy-back accel dfi 6 ecu with calmap 6.32. i have an 1986 corvette currently maf setup. the accel unit has speed density conversion capabilities. for now, i am going to run my stock engine, with intentions of building a roller cam, possibly cc306 style cam, with better heads. in next couple of months, i will be doing a zf6 conversion, along with putting long tube headers, heated o2 sensor, smog pump bypass. possibly, before new engine, i am converting to newer lt1 intake, adjustable fuel pressure regulator. over winter i am changing gears 3.07 now for a 3.73 ratio.
now my question is, is the accel dfi 6 alright to work with? anyone. know if all avg fuel mileage, and electronic gauges work as OEM yet? or should i bite a bullet here, and scrap accel dfi6 and go with a ALDL setup with a data logger, and tuning software? such as tuner cat? any helpful guidance is appreciated. i bought a book on tuning accel dfi 6, but i still need to understand what everything stands for, what changes what in the tuning and logging aspect.

Great, so you want to understand tuning before you make your mods. Why not 4.10 ratio? You'll notice more of a difference. I had a 3.73 put in my 91 shortly after I bought it new (stock was 2.59)because they didn't make an after market 4.10 at the time.

now my question is, is the accel dfi 6 alright to work with? anyone. know if all avg fuel mileage, and electronic gauges work as OEM yet?

I don't think so, calmap does everything that datamaster/tunercat does.

any helpful guidance is appreciated. i bought a book on tuning accel dfi 6,

Good start, you may have to read it over a few times.

but i still need to understand what everything stands for, what changes what in the tuning and logging aspect.

...as we all did at one point. I recommend the thirdgen.org site for information on tuning. Read the introductory "stickys" before you ask any questions. No one will really help you until they see you're putting in the effort.

Read everything you can on this site and the thirdgen site. If you have specfic questions then ask. Good luck, Bud.
