how do i replace the left rear corter panel. i was wondering if it was bolt on or if i have to cut and fiberglass it in place. some one backed into the car above the tire and 2" behind dore its not bad but i want it fixed right.
It is glued on from the factory and it is glued on along with the roof bar and the other quarter. It's all one piece and GM used some seriously strong green glue.
what do i use to get it of and what kind of glue should i use. i also whould like to know where to get it my vett is a roling project car and thats the worst part of the car along with a ring job.
It's not one peice, its three separate body panels, sitting on top of a one larger piece that wraps around the back.
Its' held together with SMC bonding adhesive. A good replace is SEM # 2337 (I think that's the number - it's been a while).
The passenger side quarter panel is the largest peice. The covering at the gas tank is part of it. The drivers side sits on top of the lip from the passenger side QP just to the side of the gas tank covering. Both lips of the quarter panels at the front sit underneath the halo piece.
I've wrote in detail about how to remove the quarter panels and halo before, I've done it on my '85. If you're curious try a search. It basically involves a good heat gun, and a ton of patience.
A good body shop could probably fix the damage without removing the QP, whether that is a better option then replacing the panel, I am not sure... it would be cheaper though.

The original rear body was actually a one piece replacement from GM.
The aftermarket divided it up into three pieces, to make it easier to replace.
Some guy was selling a new GM rear clip on the forum quite a while ago.
Looking at the pictures might help you out a little, to see how it mounts http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ight=rear+body

I got my replacement panels at corvettecentral.com. They were a perfect fit.
From what it looks like, the early C4's were 3 pieces and the later were 1. Mine was from the factory 3 pieces, it is an '84.
Interesting, I put quarters on a LT1 Corvette when it was new when I used to do bodywork. It was thrown in a ditch and the quarters for that car showed up all as one piece. Sorry I should have included it was a LT1 car.
I remember my former 86,it was bonded everywhere but appeared to have 2 halves where the gas tank door is.If you remove the full gas door assembly, you can see where the 2 panel parts meet, where theyre bonded together and also appears to be possible rivets back there under the finish. You can buy the side you need and cut and remove the bad side and rebond the new panel in..or replace the whole back piece if you can get it.
Thats alot more $$ though.GM used to or usually sells you the whole back half from what I remember. As said, the aftermarket sells it in pieces to save money.
