I don't think I understand those. By cowl air filter do you mean the screen that goes across the vents in front of the windshield? Mine hasn't been getting leaves, etc, in there so I haven't used it. For the K&N it should have a rubber surround like a stock paper filter, this rubber edge is very durable it won't just break off. Is that the part you mean?

I coat my K&N with Slick 50 (w/ teflon) for the best performance. But sometimes it fouls up the blades on my turbonator.
Any suggestions?

How do you quantify the extra amount of dirt entering the engine? And the cylinder wall wear (through the intake) and contamination of the oil and bearing wear (through the pcv vent)? Also the polyurethane surrounds don't seal to the filter housing for sh** compared to the paper filters.
Are we supposed to pay for and run 10 test engines in a controlled environment to see which is cheaper?
I've seen that they pass more dirt. I've seen that they flow marginally better when dirty and no better when new.
K&N also claims that oil won't affect the MAF. They go onto say the K&N can not deposit oil on a MAF, and that the MAFs are being contaminated by blowby, amongst other things. WTF, didn't they just say oil wasn't an issue? Do they have any claims that aren't bogus?
Sounds like the burden of proof is on the K&N users that are claiming all these benefits, not the other way around.
Yes, the cowl air filter goes over the screen that goes across the vents in front of the windshield. I see them used by people at car shows to filter the air and was wondering if this is any good. My gasket
for my K & N is like a foam tape. This is why I was wondering from the heat would the gasket break apart and get in the Engine?

The air filter is pretty far away from engine heat, don't worry about it. The cowl filter that I think you are speaking of is to keep debris out not filter the air. It has nothing to do with air going into the engine. Quite awhile ago I lived at a place with no garage and there was always leaves in there.
Filters Out Pollutants
Every Corvette should have one! It keeps pollutants out of the cockpit and prevents foreign debris from fouling heating or cooling components. This pre-cut foam filter installs in seconds and can be cleaned whenever necessary.
I see, not the debris screen that goes under the windshield then, try it if you like. It seems the new cars all have removeable filters for the cabin, I see them in the glovebox.
Why yes, Central Coaster. I have a suggestion. Buy an electric supercharger. Hell, buy 8 of them. That should take care of your problems!!!!! Maybe I'll try coating my standard paper air filter with slick 50 and see how it works.
I tried a K&N several years back. To me the only difference was the increase in intake noise. Went back to the stock Delco filter, it appears the better built of all the paper filters I've seen. Cost is not an issue for me as I don't drive the car much, 40,000 miles in 11 years, so I change air filters around 2 years or when the mood stirkes.
