GM did not want ANYTHING but dry air coming in the snorkel. Think about it before you do your mod. Your not going to gain significant cfm anyway to make a difference.
I have yet to see ANY data linking a K & N filter to any problems with the motor...I have heard speculation such as "well, if it allows more air in it must not be filtering as well so a lot of dirt must get in"....like I said, pure speculation...
I don't care what filter anyone runs but there is NO evidence that it is bad for your car....if you don't clean and oil it properly it is another story....
The best reason to run a K & N is cost...over a period of years you will be way ahead of the game cost wise versus paper filters....you will get a tiny bit more power but not enough to crow about...
p.s. I don't work for K & N....lol...I have had one in my car for 6 years with not one issue...in that time I have gone over 50,000 miles and taken over 500 passes at the drag strip...

A lot of Mustang owners have claimed to have fouled their MAF sensors after installing K&N filters. The "reason" is because of the oil on the filter getting on the sensor.
Actually, I'm not telling the whole story. This only happens when they recharge the filter and go overboard on the spray because I can't imagine K&N selling an intake kit for a car that would ruin it's MAF right out of the box.
It's like beavis and butthead with the K&N. Time, PCV, and EGR, will put more dirt in an engine then a K&N will. Even if a stock filter will catch 99.9%, that .1% will add up! I run K&N filters for 15 years without any issues, this has saved me some nice cash. I sold a previous car with a K&N that had 100,000 miles on it and ten years, it still looked new.
They are junk. Look at the crazy claims they make for Hp gains. They sucker people in with false hopes of Hp gains. They mess with MAS airs because of the oil. Over priced junk. You show me proof of the HP claims they make and I will put one on my car.

There are many parts with BS HP claims. I would not put one on for HP. If you over oil it's your fault not the filters. If you take the time to clean them they save you money.
Whoa....looks like I whacked a hornet's nest here! Doing the math, it looks like I can get around 3 OE filters for what 1 K&N would run. Hmmmmmm....I think I'll do the housing mod. and stick with the oe filter for now & see how it works out. Thanx for all the input.
(I was going to ask about Slick 50 next, but I don't think I will... )

What else would you expect from a slack jaw blue oval boy!

Like I said....you won't get much increase in HP...you buy a K & N for longevity and WILL save money in the long run...if you are dumb enough to over oil it you deserve MAS problems...you show me how they are overpriced or junk compared to paper filters over time and I'll buy you your next paper filter...once again a bunch of pure speculation without a shred of evidence other than over oiling causes MAS problems...well..DUH!!!
Yeah I guess if you guys have a hard time spending $20 a year to put a good air filter in your car, maybe you cant aford a Corvette and should move to something cheaper.

Does anyone that use the K & N filter use the gasket that goes on the Housing Duct that came with the filter? I did but was wondering if pieces of the gasket could break off and get sucked up into the Eng.? Also does anyone use a Cowl Air Vent Filter? If so what do you think?
