Air Pump 96
On 96 LT-1, with key in " On " position should my air pump run before trying to start engine ? I hear air pump relay clicking but seems it will not stay energized. I took the relay off and pulled cover off it. Coil seems ok. I ran jumper wires to the relay straight from the battery and relay energized and air pump ran. My car still will not fire so I was thinking maybe some other relay maybe not energizing, because of the power being grounded or going some other place.

My only experience with OB2 vehicles that have air pumps is that if they don't work, there are 2 or 3 trouble codes to drive you nuts. Generally, no emissions controls work when the starter is cranking and the air pump should energize after it fires. It will then run for whatever time is programmed into it; often the first O2 signal, and then shut off. Crank but no start is air, fuel and spark. You need to troubleshoot those. I'd check fuel pressure and spark first and my guess would be you don't have the spark. For that you need a reference from the distributor and without it, the pump doesn't send any fuel to the injectors.
