i have a 94, stock exhaust pipping, but i have muff elims,, i want to cut off my resonator. can u cut it off and then replace it with strait tubing from say an auto store and clmap it? like im wondering if its bent tubing and i have to have it bent..i will have it welded later but i wanna do some of my own work too
I've got a '96 - I had the resonator replaced with straight 2.75" pipe (stock LTx exhaust size). I had a muffler shop do the work - with pipe and labor it was under 100 bucks. I had to dig up the pipe on my own as 2.75" is an odd size, but any muffler shop should be able to weld in 3" pipes. The attached pic isn't very good - but you can see where the straight pipe was attached. I had an X on there previously but didn't like the sound - the shop that put the X on did a little creative bending with the rear section of the exhaust, but I believe that was because they used 2.25" pipe (don't get me started).
I have an x-pipe where the resonator used to be. At one time I had the stock exhaust setup with only muffler-elim and x-pipe where the resonator is. The first exhaust shop did not drop the entire exhaust so the welds were bad on the top ends of the X and it sounded crappy. Thats why it only cost me under $100 the first time around. Once it was done right it sounded good. It may cost more but make sure they drop the exhaust if it's getting welded. They make exhaust clamps for joining pipes that work well and theres also a tool for expanding pipe.
if its a stock pipping what size pipping would i need to use as a replace..like what size is my exhaust tubing now>
Stock pipe size is 2.75" (aka 2 3/4). You would either need to expand the ends, join it with a clamp, or weld it. I've never done this myself so maybe the others can help further.
