Default Simple problem

The courtesy lights in my 87 only come on when the passenger door is opened. The interior lights also will come on when the headlight **** is turned all the way to the left. Ok, so I figure the switch on the driver's door is bad.
Looked in the FSM, did a search here and on google. Looked at the thing myself, I can't figure out how it comes out. Can anyone help me out here?

I haven't looked at my 86 in a while, but if like my 95, you have to remove the door panel. There are two screws (7mm IIRC) that hold the switch and are loosed when looking at the door. There is a plate behind the fiberglass that the screws bolt down too. Once the door panel is removed you will be able to get to the backside.

Do a search in the tech and gen section on "door switch".

Nope, on the older C4s, the switch is mounted on the door jamb, (on the body).

The courtesy light switch for the driverside is by the front door hinge mounted in the A pillar.

The switch on the backside of the door is for Door Ajar.

Try spraying some WD40 in the switch and press the switch in and out a couple of times. It could just be stuck.

I'll try that. Do you have any idea how to take that thing out of there?

I've never had to remove one. I looked at the Helms manual and here's the procedure.

Remove
1)Door jam switch
2)Jam switch electrical connector
3)Jam switch seal

Installation
1)Jam switch seal
2)Electrical connector to jam switch
3)Jam switch

I'm guessing you use a socket and unscrew the nut. Then rotate the switch so you can pull it out of the door jam.

Might want to disconnect the battery while working on it so you don't run the battery down.
