Default Performance Mods-95 LT1

Hi All,

I've read multpile threads but still can't decide on my next performance mod. Any suggestions??

1995 LT1 A4 (47k miles)
3.07 gears
Cut Lid/w K&N filter
Throttle body bi-pass
Magnaflow Catback Stainless Mufflers #15623 on thier way (should be here next week!)

Here's what I am considering for my next mods:

Shorty Headers?
2500 stall converter? Will there be any benifit to this without change gears?

I really don't want to open up the motor, just want to add basic bolt on's.

My local corvette shop quoted me about $1300 to have my gears/bearing changed. Does that sound about right? They also mentioned as long I dont race it all the time there is no need for a Trans cooler...

Thanks!

$12-1300 is what I've seen on here. You can save money by removing the rear your self or try to find a D44 to swap in for about the same price. 3.45s will give you the best performance feel. LT are better then shorty's for top end HP. 1.6 or 1.7 RR with CC 918 springs and then a PCMFORLESS tune.

Go with the lt's over the shortys...

To me thats a little to much stall esp. if you run at the track if you hook hard off the line your stock rear will go

Trans cooler is great add-on whether you race or not... For less than100 buck's you can get everything you need and that could save you some $$ in the long run...

3.07 was available as a performance option on LT1's, no LT4 autos.

Oh, I paid $300 for my gears and $350 for a turn-key install.

with what you have i would go with the stall next.i think it will give you the best bang for the buck.
i idi'nt notice a huge gain going to longtubes.sure they looked nicer and sounded better but it did'nt make it a whole lot quicker.
i would recommend a trans cooler with a stall.think about it,you are spending a fair amount of coin to increase performance but you don't want to install a $75 piece that will take care of the extra heat it generates.heat kills transmissions.
do it right once or do it twice, the choice is yours.

Thanks for the reply's! I've check the codes and I do have the Performance axle and 3.07 gearing.

I also have the ride control, witch I normally leave on Tour. Haven't tried selecting sport or performance.

My 95 also has the 3.07 option.

I have a 2800 stall which isn't bad but you need DR's or a sticky tire for the track to take advantage of it or it would be a waste of money. You can forget about ever flooring it in wet weather. You will have zero traction from a dead stop and you could easily wreck. If you want big power go with nitrous, heads/cam, or forced induction. If you are looking for bolt on's with smaller gains do Long Tube headers, 1.6rr, shift kit, and a PCM tune. Mine's a daily driver so I'm happy with the 3.07 gears for now. For me I think it would be too much with the TC. If I had a track only car than maybe. If your going to do gears do it later with the Dana 44 swap. Install a trans cooler regardless of what the shop says. Mine was under $75 and they are easy to install. I've already had my trans rebuilt once and that was before the TC. The cooler will extend the life of the trans. I would even put one on an all stock car. My only regret with the TC is that I didn't go with a better brand that was built for nitrous. Everyone says TCI is no good but mine seems to be holding up very well so far.

Good Luck

It depends on what you want to do next after this mod.
torque converter is only good for launching advantage....if you are going to add gears in the future with the TC the car would be a beast out of the hole and down the track. If you're not going to do any
heads/cam changes...the headers will not be the best bang for your buck.....Gears is what you really are asking for.

So here is what I suggest
D44 conversion...with 3.45 0r lower
tanny cooler! then torque converter down the line... Peace!

Mind made up!!!

Gears and Trans cooler are next. Should I go with the 3.54's or the 3.73's?

With the following specs & mods is a 12sec 1/4 mile possibly reachable?

1995 LT1 A4 (47k miles)
3.54 gears
Cut Lid/w K&N filter
Throttle body bi-pass
Air Foil-hehe
IAT Relocate
Magnaflow Catback Stainless Mufflers #15623

I ran 3.54 for a year love them..but had traction issues on luanch
I ran 3.54 for two days with 2600 stall TC before the weak D36 exploded.
damn..damn..damn... but I have to say that last launch and hook was the bomb! also had to rebuilt tranny when I put on the TC because
runnig the 3.54s for two years without the tranny cooler burnt out the
trans!

here is what you are asking for.
3.54 or 3.73 without drag radials stop light launches must be done
cautiouslly ...some say Goodyear D3 tires offer great traction
this is ture because I now run them but never got the chance to
run with the 3.54..after reared blew I had to put the 3.07s back on
and I never got around to the D44 conversion thats why I stess you
do it right the first time and be done with it.

here is what you should look for

3.33 first option hard to find
3.45 good gear to have it's between the 3.33s and 3.54s
3.54 great gear but must run top of line street tires for traction!
don't forget the tranny cooler
in short anyone of the above gears will sevre you well
PEACE!

Oh yea ....with a good sub 2 second launch and some good
weather 12s want be a problem!

Got the tires covered!! Got new Goodyear Eagle F1's just a few weeks ago. Now I just have to start looking for someone to do the gears!

I think I'm going to go 3.54's w/trans cooler. Don't think I'm going to do a stall converter.
