I bought the temp to redo mine from Zip Corvette. I haven't had a chance to take them off and paint them yet though. I'm curious if you used that same brand pictured above?
Juliet, I know you into the NCRS "stuff". The MAD paint, I tried on my stock browned valve didn't look quite right , They were too bright compare to the stock color. I paid $150 for new GM valve covers 3 years ago.
Orchard Supply Hardare (west coast) has a metal grey-ish engine paint color that REALLY looks like the stock magnesium appearance. I've used it and I swear it looks like the real thing. Cheap too. Not expensive and exclusive to a catalog order. :flag
The Mid America paint is as close as I have seen....I have used it also to paint the alternator bracket....it is an exact match for the plenum surfaces color but spray lightly whereever you use it...dont overcoat it...if you do it looks too heavy and its a give away for a respray. As it is, you cant tell what is sprayed and whats not. For cleaning, I use "simple green" in hot water and a tooth brush....works well and no damage to the original finishes, even on the plenum surfaces. My C4 is an '87 and the engine compartment still looks as new.
I took the tip from Bob. Took my covers to the shop today to have the paint stripped so I can polish them up real good. Hope I can get my that shiny!! Looks great...
