My valve covers are looking pretty poor as of late. I think I seen some kits for redoing them, had the paint, emblems, etc. If I remember the color was silver, looking at mine the color (whats left) seems to have been brown. What is the correct color?
I tried to find the kit that I was talking about but couldn't find it anywhere. Know of any? Sure made it easy because it had everything that you need.

Thanks, why is mine brown, i've seen others that were brown as well. A guy at the paint shop told me they should be brown but all the paints like the link that you gave aren't.
Anyway thanks, i'll get some should look alot better.
I recently redid my valve covers with two cans of paint from MAD and replaced the valve cover emblem too. I used nearly two cans because I cleaned and sanded the covers and wet sanded between each of several coats. The MAD part numbers are:
609-683...1984-91...Valve Cover Paint...............$11.95 ea
600-566...1986-90...Enblem, valve cover (GM)....$47.99ea
The resulting color/finish is very close to the intake Al color.
I used FelPro dry install rubber gaskets to reseal the valve covers and they did a fine job.
Check out Street & Performance, I'm pretty sure they have a web site. They can paint 'em, polish, or chrome them. Excellent work and a fair price. :seeya
I bought the M.A.D paint and didnt like the color..and it rubbed off when trying to clean it.I went with a Hi tempbright aluminum spray paint found at a car quest parts store...looked wayyyyy better.
You should be able to buy this paint at a local vendor for a lot less money than Ecklers. Its Spruce 473, cat #98-17, color is Gun Metal Gray Lacquer. When I did mine I painted my emblem using model paint and a small brush and it looks like new.
Bill's86Coupe, very impressed with the rims. Can't say that mine look near that good. Do you have any closeups of em, can't believe they shined up that well.
What do you use to clean them then if they are that touchy. I don't remember having that problem on my 88 GTA. They were never really clean but they never turned brown, and if memory serves they looked identical to the vette - minus the corvette logo.

I was using armall cleaner to clean the hose and I had some over spray :(. I bought a set of new ones, I now use griots engine cleaner, when I am in cleaning mood. Unless yours were changed, the f-bodies use a metal valves covers (not magnesium).
I bought the temp to redo mine from Zip Corvette. I haven't had a chance to take them off and paint them yet though. I'm curious if you used that same brand pictured above? Because Zip sells that same brand. Did you bake it in the oven before you put them back on? ~Juliet
