Default problems

i have a c4 l98 with 96k on it. has new ignition system including plugs, wires, distributor, ect. It stopped running the other day for no reason after being parked for three weeks. it ran perfect before that. I figured it was the fuel pump but checked for codes just in case. I got a 43 the first time i checked it last saturday. I installed the fuel pump and sifter thing today and had no luck. i checked codes again and got nothing but 12's. I am lost on what the problem is. it cranks but doesn't catch/start up. it actually has idled really rought a couple times but died seconds after.

what does everyone think! i don't feel like getting raped on labor and am capable of fixing the problem if i can figure out what it is.

Ignition module and coil although they are both in the distributer. Check for fuel pressure at the rails, and don't take offense, check the fuses. Basically you need to check for A. fuel B. spark C. compression (timing chain) D. timing.

checked fuses and everything is ok. That was the first thing i checked even before the codes. how can i check to see if the distributor is dead? or something in it needs to be replaced. my battery was weak after i put in the new fuel pump so i am going to buy a new one in the afternoon. My wifes car couldn't even charge it enough to try to jump the car. but yea. i dont' have a guage to check the fuel pressure but will try to get one in the morning. need this car fixed bad! have a baby on the way!

I'm with Fred, start with the stuff you can do, like checking for spark. If you have spark, there is a good chance you have injector pulses, but without a fuel pressure gauge, your really not sure if there is sufficient fuel for combustion.
What year ?????????

Hook up a fuel pressure gauge and a timing light, and crank her over. Both are cheap and invaluable.

Looks like I didn't fully absorb your post, originally. If I had, I would have asked you, "did you test the fuel pump circuit before pulling the pump" ? Maybe the problem to no start, lies in that circuit.
Also, code 43 is knock sensor problem, did you investigate it, or did it just go away ??

To use the light simply to check for the presence of spark, connect the clips leads to the battery, the clamp lead to a plug wire, and pull the trigger. If you have spark the light will (regularly) flash (as the engine is cranking). For now I don't think you need to go any further.

The problem will be either spark or fuel, those tests will tell you which, and we can go from there.
