Default Help with window rattle pads

I need to replace the window rattle pads along with the interior window seal. When I close either door it sounds like I'm going to break the glass when the window is down. Are these pads hard to replace? anything to watch for or be concerned with? Besides taking the door panels off, is there a procedure to doing it other than slow and easy? The GM repair book shows the pads but don't say anything about replacing them, however, my book is a labled prelim, maybe it is described in latter additions. :flag The door weather seals are next. I have never done auto work like this, but am determined to do as much of my own work as possible as this is suppose to be my hobby. After all whats a hobby if you get other people to do all the work? Hmmmmm, wait a minute........ ;)

Those are easy to replace...you may just need to adjust them.
Theyre held on by 10MM bolts and they can slide to or away from the glass.
If the felt lining on them is worn down, youll need new ones.
You will see them on top of the door before the window as soon as the door panel is off.

The first post was meant for the anti glass rattle clips.

The outer window door seals, are snapped in place by a bunch of clips, but on their ends is a pop rivet, you have to drill out those rivets on the ends before you can lift and pull the outer seal out.
Its not a hard job at all,but the outer seal can be a pain to remove since those clips really get stuck in there.

Use caution when drilling the rivets out,or youll do through the door itself.

Youll need a rivet gun to to install the new outer seal when doneon the ends.Theres just 2 rivets to replace.

Thanks for the reply, when I had the car painted reciently I had the outer window seals replaced at that time. The inside ones are the ones I have my sights on now. I don't know what the pads look like yet, and, I thought I would just replace them as this cars original owner sun baked it for the past 14 years and you know what that does to everything. All the door weather seals are next, hatch is done. This car is so solid and tight the interior deteriorization does not do this great car proud. 74k miles. :)

I was under the impression you meant the outer seals, but I know what ya mean with the inside ones.
Is that inside seal part of the door panel or is it serviceable...I cant rem.
I dont rem. seeing them for sale unless you buy the door panel.

But I do know the inside glass rattle pads can be bought and replaced.
My interior fell apart from the sun and age..mainly the door panels..GM made this stuff so cheap and I hope the aftermarket replacement panels are better grade plastics and vinyl.
Would hate to spend 500-600 for new panels and find them warping or cracking in a year or so.

I may be kidding myself, but I was hoping to not do the door panel replacement thing. I have had several people look at them and they go both ways. (fix vs replace) Ok, so I put that on hold and keep the glass quiet. Most of what I am doing to the doors, from what I can tell, is transferable to the new panels if I go that route. I don't think I am wasting money I don't have here. As I said, all new door seals next. :)

I just took a look at my door panels, theyre off the car in my "storage room" because the car will go in for paint in 2 weeks.Took everything off etc. for prep.

The inside rubber seal on top of the door panel that presses against the glass is held in place by a bunch of staples. If you see these seals sold by themselves, you can pull the old staples out of them, and restaple new ones in there.
Mine arent cracked but getting real hard now... :(
seems to have lost its pliabiity.

I looked through my catalogs and dont see this inner seal sold by itself. All the new door panel advertisements list a new inner seal with it...maybe 18carfan on this forum can look up the seals and see if they can be bought from GM.

It would really sux to have to buy new door panels just to get this seal.Especially if the door panels are in excellent condition overall.
Good Luck!

For inner door weather stripping contact Corvette Rubber 231.779.2888.

They cost $29 each.

I haven't bought them, but everything else I got from them is high quality.

I had good luck using a Chevy dealer for the Window seals and price was the same or cheaper then catalogs and you get to leave with them without waiting for them to be shipped.
