Default odd problem with my 85

Hello everyone,
today after a 20 min ride my car started running like crap and making noise, so i investigated and found 3 rocker arms were so loose that they came off of the valves and the pushrods. it seems to me that those 3 rocker arm studs are higher than all the others, i put them back on to see if they would tighten but they won't. does this mean i need a new head? or is there a fix for rocker arm studs? any help is appreciated.
thanks, Eric

The '85 may have press-in studs, I'm not sure. If so, they can be threaded for screw-ins as they should have been from the factory. While this could be done with the heads on, you'd have to be very careful about the shavings. It's not really difficult, just takes a little care, either way. Make sure and use a bottoming tap.

Default studs

you can buy a stud kit from jegs or summit racing that includes the old stud puller, and a fixture to start a tap into the head to add threads for rocker studs. If your head is giving up it's studs, I would look for cracks though.
clean the area thoroughly with either a solvent, or alcohol, or something, don't use spray brake cleaner, it can attack the soft metals in your engine like cam bearings, mains, and rods.
use a 15X power magnafying glass, and see if you can detect anything in the area. If not, you may be able to use a non- magnaflux crack detector.
You spray on the dye, and wipe it off, then wait a few minutes, and spray on the developer, and it highlights the crack or imperfection if there is one.

thanks for the info
I have had this car for about 2 years i bought for $3500 and i was told it had issues, but when i was looking at it i noticed that it has a TPIS throttle body (58 MM) and a TPIS big throat intake with SLP runners it is a 4 bolt main and i am told it has 202 heads. someone ( not the guy i bought it from, but someone spent money on this engine) and i thought it was a good deal ( my wife does not agree) I just had a transmission built for it from Mad Dog Transmissions, it is awsome, now i need to get the engine back so i can enjoy my vette. it does have roller rockers are there differant studs for them? Thanks for all the help you guys are great.

You can knock the studs back down ,and then drill and pin them.
