C4 Battery / Alternator
hey everyone, this is my cherry poppin thread, and its just a lame question.
I picked up an 85 that has been sittin for quite some time. It drives well, although it has a check engine light that comes on, #34 - I believe - "Lean Exhaust". It comes on while the car is still, in park, or stuck in heavy trafffic, but goes away when RPMs pick up. Anyway, when this happens, the battery voltage always reads really low - between 9.6 and 10.9 V.
Today, after driving about 20 miles on the freeway, I stopped for about 2 minutes to drop off a check, and the battery didnt start. It jumped after about 2 minutes of charging, but unless I revved the engine the entire way home, (even stopped at red lights), the battery was dropping out to about 9.6 again, but when revving, it would go up to about 12.5 V. It died again, and I'm sitting in my car stealing internet to post this thread.
Is this an alternator or battery issue? And how much *should* a new alternator cost?

Your alternator for sure, battery may not be so great either. Just for ****s and grins make sure ALL your cable ends are tight. If your positive cable is loose it will do do that.
