I’m in the process of doing an upgrade for my winter project. I’m going to install slotted rotors and EBC pads on all four corners. I’m also going to be looking into some braided brake lines. Do anyone know where there’s a good place to get braided brake lines for a decent price. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Re: Upgrading Brakes, Need Braided Lines? (bellmd)
I purchased some SS lines a few years ago and then took them off of the car. I found that a number of people were having catastrophic failures due to road grit between the teflon tube and the stainless braid. I went back to OEM. These were not all Vette related either, several performance boards were documenting the same problem. You might want to check out Paragon lines, at least they have a layer of Kevlar to protect the teflon internal tubing.

I asked a brake guy that yesterday. He said performance wise, there is virtually no difference. But the rubber ones will rot out and need replacing. SS won't. Also, they look

I disagree with your mechanic... The SS lines are less prone to pressure related flex... rubber will weaken over time, not just rot. Just like rubber bushings.

I agree. I used to run them on my motorcycles. They give a dramatic difference in brake feel.

Can you explain more in detail what the failures were?
The failures fell into two categories. They were all DOT approved lines. The first was simply a leak in the line and the second was a fatigue failure typically at the caliper end. I read of this on several boards and have been a member of Vettenet for several years. Quite a few on Vettenet have had this failure. I just decided it wasn't worth the risk for a street driven car. That is why I returned to OEM.

Guess what, I took the cover off the ZR-1 and pulled it out of the garage for the first time in almost 6 weeks and took a look at the brake lines. I'm shocked and kind of confused, but it has SS braided brake lines on this car. Now did that come factory on the ZR-1's I wonder? This car is totally factory stock. This was a one owner car which came from a private collection. Does anyone know if the ZR-1's came stock with SS braid lines for sure?
