I just purchased a 1987 corvette L98 coupe. Noticed the exhaust is a little on the loud side. Looked underneath and noticed that super turbo was the muffler type. Can anyone out there tell me what type of muffler would give me a nice rumble but not drive me out of the car in the low gears?
Thanks
There are plenty available but some get pretty costly. I like the way borla sounds. I also like power effects but they are of this students budget. Your probably getting alot of interior resonance. They came on my 84 when I bought it. They were the first to go. Since the 84 wasn't a "speed demon" i had them replaced with some stock mufflers.
When I got my 87 it had an awful resonance at low RPM - drove me NUTS! Upon further inspection I found undersized mufflers from Midas. I replaced them with GM stock and the resonance was gone and they sounded a whole lot better.
concur with the flowmasters and straight pipes- had them for years now, never picked up on the resonance thing- reasonably quiet till you stand on it, then it's pretty rowdy, darn it.....(!)
I have no cats and no pre-cats, just some pipes leading to a pair of Dynomax mufflers. My goal was not performance (though I imagine I did get some) yet to quiet the car down! It's quiet on the inside and loud on the outside. Y'can't ask for any better than that ;)
I really don't know. But it all looks to be fairly new judging by the condition. One of my mechenically inclined friends said I could just replace the super turbos mufflers only. I think what I'll do is wait till the spring attend a few Vette shows and listen to some systems on other vettes.
