1 - should there be an o-ring in the fuel line fittings connecting to the fuel filter?
2 - should you use some sealant on the fuel line threads? (teflon tape? paste?)
1 - should there be an o-ring in the fuel line fittings connecting to the fuel filter?if your 85 is same as an 86, yes it's a saginaw fitting
2 - should you use some sealant on the fuel line threads? (teflon tape? paste?)not needed with the o ring
Remember to pop the gas cap so there isn't extra pressure pushing the gas out of the line. It will gravity drain some but it wasn't much if your quick to change the filter.
Thanks all. I wish I would have planned on getting these o-rings early on, rather than having to run to NAPA and pay $7 at the last minute.

Andrew, the system was de-pressurized and just leaked a little (from the line above the engine). Wouldn't it be better to leave the cap on, so there's no additional air pressure pushing the fuel out of the tank?
Mine always has a lot of pressure from sitting around in the shop. I open the cap letting out a big whoosh before doing fuel work. I don't have to depressurize the rail since mine still leaks down.
