305 heads?

Default 305 heads?

other than a gain in compression, are there ay benefits to running a 305 head? what abot drawbacks?

(on an 85 tpi)

I wouldnt do it. There is a gain in compression but the intake ports are generally smaller. Are the heads from a Camaro/TA by any chance? You'd have more luck with porting and installing better hardware on the ones you already have. However, the best choice is to go aftermarket where there are many many choices.

You will have a net loss on running a stock 305 head on a 350. Like the TPI intake (designed for a 305), it will starve the 350.

I would sell the 305 head and buy a nice set of aluminum D-port 113s or an aftermarket set of heads if you want more power.

No, unless you consider low cost a benefit.

I believe the article you are referencing was in car craft and in that article they replaced standard cast iron 350 heads with a set of 305 vortec heads. The 305 vortec heads flowed more air then the standard 350 heads and they had a smaller combustion chamber. In that article the engine picked alot of power (approximately 50 HP).

You could try some of the older style heads with 64cc combustion chambers, although you wont be running on 87 anymore
