Before I begin, I replaced my headlight bushings probably a year ago.
Recently my right headlight has started messing up. When turning the lights off, it goes halfway in then gets stuck. It sort of pops like the motor is still turning but the gears are slipping. Here's the kicker... If my hood is up, or even if I just pop the hood from inside, the headlight will close all the way. I looked and can't see anything that would be blocking the path of the light. Any ideas?
Can't remember. They weren't home depot or lowes. I ordered them from Ecklers I think, and they were the ones that were supposed to be 10 times better than the stock bushings. I hope I don't have to take those apart again, that was a pain.
I replaced the nylon gears with brass gears when I put in the new bushings at 78,000 miles. The nylon gears in my 1990 coupe had some very worn places.
Sounds like internal bushing failure. If you didn't the first time, be sure and lube the main motor gear with white lithium grease. It will help things keep turning smoothly in there.
Also, you might want to switch to plastic headlamp lenses instead of glass. All 1992 and up C4s used plastic units because it puts less strain and wear on the motors, bushings and gears.
