Here's what I have going on. The wipers work, but they don't shut off! I have to turn the car off in order to get them to stop. Washer fluid doesn't seem to work either.....am thinking to replace the switch, and go from there. Any tips?
The switch is not all that expensive, it can also be corrosion build up on the switch connector. I had a bad switch and motor control module which I have not changed as of yet.
If they won't shut off it's probably Not the switch. Most likely is the Stop Switch located in the motor assembly. It also is possible (and common) that the printed circuit board in the motor Cover (normally bought separately from the motor itself) is the problem. BTW - I've seen New motors come out of the box with bad stop switches on them...
I have the exact same problem as the origininal post. Have to shut the car off, and washer does not work as well. Is it the "Park" switch in the motor itself? When you say "switch", do you mean the one located on the door, or something internal to the motor? Don't wanna throw any parts at it that I don't need to. Who's had the exact sa,me problem, and what did it turn out to be?
You can pull the connector off the motor and use a test light to probe the contacts on it and verify your switch is working properly. Just clip the cord from a test light onto ground and turn the switch on to first position and see if one of the terminals is hot. Then turn the switch off and see if that terminal went dead. Continue checking each terminal and each wiper speed the same way. I bet you'll find the switch is working fine. If it is you need a new wiper motor. My son just had the same problem with his '87 Vette. We checked the switch using that method and the switch was fine. He replaced the motor and all is well. Not a huge job to replace the motor.
