Default c3 back from the track. any advice?

well im back from the track after testing my new team G intake. i dont know what to make of it. the car was consistantly faster then before except i would have thought there would be more gain because i have to lauch it harder and i have to shift it later. before, i used the edelbrock performer RPM and consistantly got 13.0-13.1s at 103 (with a few 12.98s @ 103) lauching the car at 1800 and shifting at 5800. the new intake wont even leave without lauching it above 2000rpm. it will just bog out. and the power comes in later.
Today with the team G, the first 3 runs were 12.910 @105.93, 19.94 @105.27, 12.92 @105.69 all with low 1.8 60's. so it is quicker. but dont you think that with a 2-3 mph gain on the top end i should have seen a little bit more difference? what i mean is that the sixty foot was the exact same as the previous trip to the track and the 1/8 mile was the exact same as before, so if nothing was lost from before and i gained 2-3 mph should i have seen a tenth difference or more?

anyway here is my main concern. on the last run (run #5 of the day) i had my best ever 60 foot of 1.816. a best ever 330' of 5.307 and a second best ever 1/8th of 8.251. but on the top end of the track something happened. i ended up with a 13.090 @ 100.51 mph. it seemed like i was surging on the top end. right before i got to 6000rpm in second gear it was like i had run out of gas or had some sort of ignition problem. this has been happening for a while. what is it?

my last questions is how safe is to rev a stock shortblock 350 to 6600rpm every shift? for the car to run like it was to day i had to shift at 6300rpm every gear and lauch the car at 2500rpm. this cant be good for a stock tranny and motor. what do you think is safe?

On my mustang. I had a team G with a 750 race demon set up. I ditched this combo and went with a victor jr. and a holley 750 hp and I picked up 4 mph and 4 tenths. I started out with a performer and a the demon, then the weiand and the demon, and I finally got lucky and found the current combo. Pulls hard from launch to about 6200. I shift at 6.
Your surging could be in the floats. You weren't low on gas were ya.
If your car is a daily driver I would keep it away from 6800. I don't know where your power curve is but you might want to try different shift points. Start low say 5800 then work your way up. You should see some changes in mph as well at et.
By changing intakes you moved your torque curve around a bit. Thats why it bogs at 2000 rpms. The performer rpm is a good torque intake whereas the weiand is going to do better in the mid to upper rpms...hence your mph increase. You might try re-jetting it a bit. What jets are in it? If it were me I would try going up a couple of sizes in the secondaries with the better flowing team G. Again make a change and look for more mph and a couple of hundreths.
Hope this helped. :seeya

i did shift at 6000 on one of the runs and the car ran a little slower. 13.0 at 104. the jets in the carb are already big. 74 in the front and 86 in the rear. they may be to big (RIGHT????). i have a lot of tuning to do. This top end problem is going to make this tuning difficult. i am going to check the plugs tommarrow to see if it is to rich.

the cams power band is 2500 to 6500 and the intake p.b. is 2500 to 7200.

86 does sound a little big for a 350 but then again with a good head and exhaust combo you can get rid of the fuel. In my setup with the same carb, victor jr, 422 ci with 12.5:1. I have found that an 82 primary and a 86 secondary yield me the best results. Its a little rich at idle but just right on the big end. Did you try changing the timing a few degrees in both directions?

no the track was busy so i didnt really have any time to. do you think that with the higher revs i might need to put the timing down a couple?

at idle the timing is at 14. thanks for all your help.

I advanced mine until i could hear it ping and then I would back it down a degree. Mine runs best at 35 degrees at 3000 rpms. I'm not saying set yours there but check it when its advanced. Next time you are at the track bring your light and make some passes. Good luck

thanks for all your help. you have been really nice. i hope i can get more out of this setup, otherwise i may just switch back to the dual plane. this motor just isnt built for these revs and i dont want to break it. who knows. one good thing is that i have never hit 12s at Island dragway and i am usually a tenth or two better at etown.
