Today the alternator decided it wanted to be replaced so while installing the new one I took a closer look at the oxygen pump...
My parts finally came in for the Magnaflow Exhaust System I am building. I ordered the Hedman Street Headers, and they no longer have the ports for the oxygen pump; the cats are also going in favor of the Magnaflow spun cats.
I took a closer look at the air pump and didn't see any wires leading out of it? I am guessing it constantly runs when the vehicle is running? If I remove the oxygen pump is there any tuning that will be necessary? What did most of you guys do with your Air System.
On the 388 LT1 I just built, I removed the hoses, solenoids, etc., and blocked off the holes in the exhaust manifolds with oil pan plugs from a Dodge turbo diesel with Cummins engine - 22 mm. Bought them at my local Dodge dealers for about $9 each.
I had BRYAN at PCMFORLESS turn off the A.I.R. in my PCM when he reprogrammed it for the new engine.
On my 86 I removed the fins from the pump, but left the pump in place, free wheeling. I disconnected all the hoses and solenoids. ZI had the holes in the exhaust manifolds welded shut.
Can't remember if I had anything done to the PROM. Email ALVIN at PCMFOR LESS and take his advice on that. ALVIN does L98s and BRYAN does LT1s and others.
Everything can go, and no error codes, but you'll need the air pump elim bracket so you can use your existing belt... Search and your find all the info you need for the project...Learn how to use that tool and it will definately help
I cut everything out of the vette yesterday. It actually worked out really well without any hitches. I made a custom bracket for the alternator and realocated it so I didn't have to purchase the air pump removal pulley... I think I will post some pictures later tonight
I just got rid of most of my AIR stuff, I would love to see pictures of the new alt setup. I hate those airpump eliminator setups from MAM etc. I wish I could find one of those elim's Redrose or Korvette4U made.

randy , working on them now, got several new shiny pulleys made, waiting for the aluminium flat & round stock to arrive.
Indeed. There is an air diverter soleniod downstream of the plumbing in front of motor with a connector on it (black box pictured below). Just unplug it and tuck it out of sight somewhere. No codes will be thrown on L98's. I left my pump in place, but gutted it for silence because I did not want to pay for an overpriced eliminator pulley.

i looked at your pictures, very impresssed with all that polished stuff, especially that air pump "WOW" it sure stands out! all that polish must have cost you a lot. now i can understand why the cost of eliminator for u is out of the question....

Not really, unless you consider $200 bucks a ton of money. I think my polished air pump looks better than the eliminator anyway.
I just purchased a new air pump removal kit from Breathless Performance. They had a chrome bracket in stock and went with that and the aluminum pulley. It looks great. I paid $200.00 for it, but I'm not as handy as some of you and I do not have the time to mess with it myself these days. I know some in the forum are not crazy about Breathless due to the cost, but the experience was positive for me.
$200.00 was not a big decision for me at this point anyway due to all of the modifications I already have. It's a "project car."
