i dont know what to tell you, other than i have personally experienced at least 2 failures with them, and more failures with other people i know, than i care to count over the years...
yeah, i know you see more MSD 6A/AL`s out there than just about all others combined, but still, it it seems to me that about one out of four or so end up failing within a year or two.some were repaired by MSD, including one of mine, others were sent back marked "unrepairable"...
i know of at least four Crane boxes, all of which have at least a couple of years of regular service on them, including one i bought over 8 years ago, and still working on a friends car... failure free.
and the convienence of the rotary switches... beats the daylights out of those rpm modules, anyday....
i havent heard of any failures with MSD`s "Digital 6" series, but i only know of a few of them in use.
they are considerably more expensive than a comparable Crane HI-6 though...
same here 1 msd 6al and a digital 7 box didn't last more then a few months .i got the crane hi-6 and trouble free now for a few years ,i have seen a lot of msd boxes that would go bad when i worked in a speed shop here in edmonton .imo msd is junk ,they make good wires but the cdi is garbage .i like the crane boxes have never had one go bad had one on my iroc for like 4 years and now on my vette its still going good .as for power they do give you a few hp and they are a must on s/c or nos engines .you don't want the spark to blow out under boost or with a ton of nos going through the engine .its more of a safe guard then a power adder.

I like my 6al two years no problems yet faster starts smother idle if you get the msd adapter plugs and the 6al fails you just unplug it and plug back in your factory ignition and away you go.
I installed the msd coil first and noticed an immediate improvement in the way it performed.
When i start my lt1 it blows peoples minds how fast it starts i gust tap the key and it starts.
I mounted my 6al in front of the coolant recovery tank away from the engine heat i believe heat plays a big part in there failure rate.
