Default 1992 Power Steering Pump Pulley, help!

Does anyone have the part # for a '92 power steering pump pulley?

A friend of mine in Lubbock, TX is about to be bent over for $700 for a tow, pulley, and belt replacement after she found the pulley to be cracked and shredding her belt. The stealership is claiming the friggen pulley will be $400'ish because GM doesn't stock the '92 pulley anymore. A friggen pulley! Even if we can just get dimensions and bolt spacing, there has to be a better option.

Ecklers is $269.99 for this plastic peice of garbage.

Corvette Central carries every year except 1992.

That does not sound right.
Try Turnone steering.com
they modify pumps and have pulleys.

That's highway-robbery. The early '93 should be the same. Or your best bet would be to convert to the late '93+ pully where the belt is only grooved one one side and is much cheaper and easier to find.

That's what I'm thinking. I don't remember if the tensioner pulley on the '92 is grooved or not. Or whether or not the idler pulley needs to be changed.

Hmm, if anyone has pictures it would help. I wish the car wasn't AT the dealer. Getting it home will either be another tow or a risky drive without a belt at this point. I'm not sure how long an LT1 in Texas heat would last. Its only a couple miles, but still, eek.

Thanks, Ramrod. It looks like it is more involved than just a pulley and tensioner. It might end up costing the same just to convert. I really wish that was a recall and not just a TSB.

Prices are gmpartsdirect.com including shipping unless listed otherwise.

Code:
Part # Desc. / Price
10230259 Belt / $27.46
   670K6 Autozone / $13.99

10227507 Tensioner / $48.64
  305300 Autozone / $39.99
  231088 Pulley Only @ AZ / $29.99

10227069 P/S Pulley / $30.28

10105355 Idler Pulley / $38.47
  234088 Autozone / $29.99

10463533 Alternator / Not Listed
10463242 Alternator '93? / $180.43 (w/$14.00 core)
DL1445-6-1 Autozone / $100.99

11502811 Generator Ring
Terminal Nut #M8 / Not Listed

Hmm.... looking like $205.24 shipped if you only get the P/S Pulley from GM Parts Direct. Autozone has 3 of em', not sure which is correct yet. If we could find just an alternator pulley we can probably save a bunch more there too.

Scorp, what do you need a picture of? I can take one of any thing you need on a 92.

Earlier I guess it was of the tensioner because it wasn't know if it was grooved or smooth. It sounds like it is definitely smooth now from that 93 changeover proceedure and parts list.

A couple miles without the belt won't hurt it assuming it has a good battery.

- The waterpump is driven off the cam on the LT1, so no worries regarding coolant flow/keeping the engine cool.
- A/C is a luxury that can be done without for a couple miles
- The alternator is belt driven, but the battery should be fine for such a short distance
- No power steering (obviously), so it'll be tough to steer but will otherwise be fine.

Well, I dont have the pulley you are looking for. I have the tensioner, and the original 93 balancer.
Sorry. but you should be able to convert over fairly cheaply, and if you do, I have the power steering pump for the 94-96, and I will sell it cheap.

The 92/93 tensioner was grooved, as I have one in the shed. I just cant find the power steering pump one thats grooved. I save everything too.

Not to hijack, but looking at the diagram, I don't understand why you have to touch the alternator to do the upgrade to the later style. In both the earlier and later configurations, the alternator is driven off the inside of the belt. Since the dampener and AC compressor don't change, the groves must be the same on the inside of both belts, so why change the alternator???

Excellent point.

www.vette2vette.com has a used 92-E93 pulley for $110. Might be going that route.

I just went out and took a look at mine and it is grooved.

Good luck

The dealer this morning quoted $675 for tow, pulley, belt, and labor.

I got a tip in another post for a Vette tech in Lubbock itself.

Corvette Garage
www.corvettegarage.com

4707 W Loop 289
Lubbock, TX 79414
(806) 771-0205

I gave them a call and spoke with Chris. He stated they charge $60/hr for work/ That has to be wayyyy below the dealer.
