I'm not so savy with computers
I'm trying to get tunerpro to recognise my cable through the com port.
What do I have to do ?? No info in their help pages. I have tried changing com port 1-4, no luck. Do I have to configure the port somehow ?? I'm using a serial connector, 2 trans cable.
Datamaster has no problems
Hi, I can't really help you with tunerpro, but cats tuner and pretty well most programs have a section to change the com port settings. In CATS tuner in the options area you can change the port setting and even hi-lite what is available. I'm sure you will find something. Good-luck, Earl.
86, Mseven just told me this the other day. Right click the gray background on the screen, when preferences pops up click it and you can set the Comport.

Iv'e done that, tried 1-4 comports, No go. Datamaster runs and uses com port 2. I'm not computer savy enough to figure out if Datamaster is hogging the port.
I use a Moates ALDL cable/converter. When I plugged the cable up to the USB port, it said "new software detected" and asked if I wanted to install. I completed the install process with a CD rom he gave me. You may need to install a driver.

Hi Guys...TunerPro is only configured to use USB Ports. You must use a USB to ALDL cable/adapter and depending upon which one, a special USB Driver may be needed. If you use the Moates.net cable, then use his supplied driver, as someone previously stated... Good Luck, Mark
Dan - once you get the proper USB cable and install the associated driver, you will have to assure that any conflicting software such as a Palm Pilot, Blackberry or other application using the com port is not active. Just shut them down before you boot up your tuner software.
Thanks guys, I didn't read anywhere that a serial port is no good.
For now, I'll continue with Datamaster. Can I build the adapter for cheaper than I built the cable.
Wow, lots of bad information in here, guys. I've gathered (in my lurking) that y'all are diehard Datamaster and TC guys. I love how this evolved into a Datamaster thread. That's alright, though. I suppose that means I need to try harder to convert you. Let me know what it would take!
Anyway, to answer the original poster's question(s) and clear some things up:
- TunerPro is designed to work with serial (COM) ports (not just USB)
- TunerPro does not auto-detect ALDL cables. It only detects emulation hardware
- To use ALDL cables, in preferences, set the ALDL interface type to MAX232, then set the COM port to the appropriate COM port for your cable (for true serial it's usually COM1 or COM2, for USB it's often COM3 or higher)
- If you have another application open that is using the COM port, you'll need to close it before any other software can open the COM port. This means you need to close Datamaster first.

Mark,
Good to see you on here. Sorry we missed you at Grumpy's Memorial.
