The one's on Ferraris work. It's not a decoration. I worked for a while as a Ferrari mechanic. You either love them or hate them.
To get it to work on the ZF6 you have to go into the transmission.
Unless you just wanted the cover.
I know they are there for a reason... my point is that if they had a real shifter, the external gate would not be needed, and would not slow down the shift action.
then again, if those things had decent syncro's, it wouldn't be a problem...
Remember that without the rubber boot and leather boot there will be considerably more 'noise' coming from the tranny area. I personally love the whine of the zf but driving without the boot is just not for me.. way too loud.

If you overlap the slots, you'll have..........a big hole.
The only way I can see this being done is if you raise the plate high enough to allow for material between the slots....which would defeat the whole "coolness" thing.

They have decent sycros, you just need to get used to driving one. Like I said, it's love it or hate it. Of course, they've moved on to F1 style steering wheel shifters.
If you want a gated cover for your ZF it's not as simple as taking the boot off and marking all the locations. Since the shifter if mounted to the tranmission, it will move with it. You have to mount the plate to the transmission and have it poke up through the tunnel. Doable, but I just what you to know what your getting involved in.

Yep. That's the plan. The big "hole" will have short slots extending from it in the shape of my shift pattern. We'll see how it looks. I've already bought the aluminum but if the cardboard template shows me that it will be impossible to make it look good, I won't go any farther.
