How delicate are these distributors? I have a 1994 and some of you guys probably remember me asking about a rough idle and such a few weeks ago. It turned out to be a dying Opti. I knew before I bought the car that you can't get them wet. But aside from never pressure washing the engine (I use a damp sponge) and not opening the hood during rain, is there anything else that can get water in there to kill it? I sometimes get caught in deluges on the freeway, and the headlights sometimes collect water from washing that drips away when you open the hood, but none of that gets far back enough to get near the engine.
I'm guessing it's designed to tolerate these circumstances, but after spending the green to get this fixed , I'm wondering if I should be even more cautious.
That's what I thought, I guess I just got unlucky, I only have 39k miles, but had a bad gasket at the water pump that pissed on the Opti. I got all new rubber in the area so it doesn't happen again. It was funny, yesterday we got drenched on the way home from the amusement park that's 15 minutes from my house and all the water made me nervous even though it's been through worse with no ill effects. It's amazing how paranoid a big bill can make you.

Aint it the truth!!
Ever notice after you drop a large bill on new tires, for the next month you stare at everyone elses tires for some reason, looking at how they should be replaced too...
Weird people us car-guys.
