Default alternative oil temperature sensor locations?

Engine builder installed a plug in the oil temp sensor hole on my block and I forgot about it until I installed the engine. So I grabbed my allen socket and turned away and it stripped the head of the plug. Faced with pulling the engine to extract that plug since there is no real room and fear of making the situation even worse, are there other locations for an oil temperature sensor?

I thought I might be able to find a sensor that would work with my Canton pan, but I have not turned up anything yet...

Just an idea here from the wild a-- guess department.

I've never seen an oil cooler on a Vette before but I know some came from the factory with them. I also know that some people install them aftermarket. I think some of those connect at the filter. It may be possible to get one of those adapter plates for an aux oil cooler and plumb it to hold your temp sensor.

That's what I'm going to end up doing. I have no desire to pull the engine again.

There's a hole at the top of the block behind the distributor. It has your pressure sending unit and fuel pump secondary power source.

You don't really need the fuel pump function, but you could wire this on a switch, or use the 89-90 combo pressure switch / power connector to make room on the other port. A bung in the pan would be easy too.

I'd just try removing the plug though with some easy outs.

If you take the oil filter housing/adapter down and look at the oil temperature sensor, it extends into the oil path.
But, the oil path is large enough there to accept it.

If you put the oil temperature sensor in another location, be careful you do not partially block the oil path.
