For those of you who don't visit the RR forum, take a look at the high drama at Mid-Ohio on Sunday...Look ahead of the in-car, I come on camera just after the driver finishes the turn. Watch closely as my car is small, there's a trail of fire out the back.
I had a hole in the oil pan along the back straight, causing an oil fire and flames for 40' behind me. I thought the motor had gone by the sound of it, but upon plugging and filling it with oil she's ready for the next race. Here's the rear bumper:

thats what I call custom lol. Is your car always that low or is it really strapped down tight on the trailer? stock 17's?
It's always that low, it's not strapped down, I took the pic just before I drove it off. The wheels are 17" GS.
I was going for that "Road Warrior" look. Max, grab your crossbow, we're headed to camp for gasoline!
I haven't had the chance to do the thorough tear down, but signs point to it being minimal damage underneath where it counts. The rear suspesion is mostly heim joints, so no bushings to melt. Hopefully they just need to be greased. I'm mostly worried about brake lines and wiring back there. Further reports as events warrant...
Here are a couple more pics for your viewing pleasure. Note the tail light lenses in the full rear shot.

Nice afterburner. Any idea what made the hole? How'd it go otherwise?
Not bad, I got one session in (luckily) before the failure and briefly had fast lap. However, as the track warmed up (I guess my car did, too!) and got faster two other guys posted quicker laps so I ended up third. At least I got a lap in the books for the points, and am currently leading the region.
You can hear the debris hit the guy filming above at about 12 seconds. Luckily it didn't hit his windshield.

If it wasn't your car, I'd say damn that's bad to the bone.
Well, it still is. Sucks that it ended your day, hopefully the damage is minimal and motor is fine. Did you hit debris or was the debris he hit from your car?
Where you able to put it out with an extinguisher, turn marshall... or did it quit on its own?

What's with the backwards plate?
Debris situation is unclear...my guess is that's what I hit.
I heard an extremely loud "bang" and then lots of smoke, I thought my motor had let go and sent a rod into the pan. It was at that point that the smoke filled the cockpit. I immediately hit the kill switch and started working my way over to the grass. About then I saw the flames out the side window (and you thought it was dramatic from behind the car...) and my left leg was extremely "warm". I checked to see if the fire was inside the car (it wasn't, thank goodness) and continued to stop. I shut off the master electrical, closed the sump just in case, got out and leaped over the wall by the corner worker.
I went to tell him that my car was on fire but he told me that the fire crew was already on the way. I swear they were there within 30 seconds. It was fantastic, I can't say enough about those guys. It appears that the fire had died by then as the oil burned off, but it was on the side of the car I couldn't see so I don't know. I entertained the thought of going back out and grabbing my extinguisher but it's a baaaad spot on the track and visions of someone losing it in my oil dump and creaming me killed that thought quickly. Besides, as stated above, the safety crew was on it so damn fast I didn't need to.
