So I took my 92 vette to an ac delco guy I know and my car will run when its cool just fine but when it gets hot its not getting any spark. He said he put the machine up to it and got codes 42 and 43. He also said that the distributor assembly was bad. How much of a pain is it to replace the distributor assembly which is underneath the water pump on the front of my car?
If it's the original WP then you might as well replace that too.
If heat is related I would suspect the coil before the opti-spark distributor. I would for sure remove it and check it while everything is off.
The secondary ignition wire can also chafe if not protected and it's a very cheap part that could be the cause as well.
There has been a bit of discussion recently about r&r of the water pump and several have written tips. If you can turn a wrench and have the space to do this work, then you will have no problems doing the work yourself.
What is the original WP?(wire plugs?)....sorry I am new to the corvetteforums lingo still......where is the coil on my car at? Where is the secondary ignition wire?

I'm sorry for not being clear and glad you asked.
WP in my post meant water pump.
Let me know if you'd like me to track down some threads on the water pump or if you search I'll bet you find them. Either way, let us know how it's going.
code 42 is the opti-spark module
code 43 is knock sensor
When he put the machine to it after it starts to runs hot then it shuts off because its not getting any spark. When its cold it will run just fine for a few minutes til it gets hot. I am going to get an a/c delco distributor and put it on. My guy said it takes 5 hrs to complete the job. That sound right? Anybody know if I need any crazy tools to get it out?
