Default engine runs rough after a new water pump.

A friend of mine has a 87 coupe. He replaced the water pump yesterday, and called me for some help. He said the car will hardly run.
Is there anything that I can tell him to check?

i would first go with the obvious issues, ie: disconnected / broken vacuum line(s)

also if he disconnected the spark plug cables, check for the proper connections / order

Make sure the MAF is reconnected

Yes, tell him to check for any stored codes. The coolant temp sensor is right above the pump, have him check the connection. It can reek havoc if unplugged, and will throw a code.
