Default accessing headlamp switch

Need to access the dashboard headlamp switch on my '84.My GM manual is more than vague on how to get to the wiring that connects to the switch. Can I get to this by removing the lower hush panel under the dash, or remove the instrument cluster bezel, or both? Or is there an easier route to gain access? The reason for needing to get to the wiring is I have a pair of supplementary gauges that I want to wire in for the gauge lamps.I figure that if I connect the positive wire to the positive out from the headlamp switch these gauges should light up with the dash lamps when the switch is pulled? Any help greatly appreciated.

I think you'd be better served connecting to the center dash lamps. the headlamp switch is a real pain in the ***.

A good way to access the wiring is to remove the top dash pad. It's held on only with... I believe five screws and clips in the rear. You have to remove the center info console and main dash faceplate. Also have to take **** off the headlight shaft.

This option provides plenty of access to make your changes

If you know what color wire your looking for, I would suggest pulling the lower panel and search the harness leaving the switch. I had to tie into the park lights for my keyless entry, with dash off, that still was the easiest route for me.
Taking the illumination from the radio harness is another option.

The dash pad is simple to remove. Take out the screws and pull it toward you.
