I went to start my Vette this morning and she wouldn't start. When I depressed the gas pedal to the floor and held it there and cranked it for awhile then it started. When I left off the gas to let it come back to idle it stalled. I hooked a Fuel pressure gage to the schrader valve on the fuel rail and turned the key on 42 lbs. then after some time the pressure started to fall. Could it be leaking injectors? bad fuel pump or bad ECM? any thoughts Pipe
If you haven't in the past year, change the fuel filter, and if the problem persists, call me in the morning. (kidding about the call) It could be a sticking injector, especially if it's not driven regularly, you might try running some cleaner in the fuel system. 42-45 psi and dropping down (slowly) is fairly normal, it should drop to 35-37 when running and regulated. It would be very rare to be a ECM.
If your fuel gauge needle rocks (hahaha no pun) while it is at idle, the fuel pump may be having trouble keeping up with the demand.
the reason the demand might be so high, is the pulsator could be leaking or worn or the regulator has small hairline cracks beginning to form around the stem area.
but the no start thing sounds like a maf power relay or a throttle position sensor kinda thing.
It might also be a dirty IAC valve, or if it idles really bad for a sec before it dies, it could be a stuck open EGR valve.
you are going to have to do some basic troubleshooting to determine what else you might have that is giving up the fight to idle
Thanks guy's for the Replys the car does not have a MAF it's Speed Density 90 CFI EFI might be right with the leaky injectors. It started when I held my foot to the floor to clear it out. Thanks Pipe PS. These injectors came from TPIS as a matched set and have been in the car for 4 or 5 years with some minor bolt on mods.
