Default Engine block coolant plug.

Can anyone please tell me if there is a freeze plug on the block of an '86 L98. I'm noticing coolant leaking from the side of the block?? Thanks in advance for any help.

I believe the 350 blocks have 2 freeze plugs on each side of the block. But there could be other sources for leaks. There are coolant passage ports in each cylinder head at about the same level as the spark plugs. On the driver's side the first fan switch is located in one of these ports between the #1 and #3 cylinders. On the passenger side the port is located between #6 and #8. There are also two very small ports just above the oil pan rail on the block, one on each side, about half way back on the block. The knock sensor uses the passenger side port. The driver's side port is used for the oil cooling system. Other than that you might be mistaking coolant leaking from the throttlebody "cooling" system. Some of the plumbing for that runs underneath the A/C compressor. I could see where some leaks in that system could fool you into thinking it was leaking from the block.

Perhaps you just have loose or cracked hose somewhere?

That's my $.02. Good luck!
