I meant to say 8 speed automatic.
3D4L60 GM TH 700R4 (4L60E) 4-Speed Auto Overdrive Trans. Replaces 7" tail housing. '93 and newer small block vans, pickups and passenger cars with electronic speedometer. Requires GM speed buffer (incl.). Provide rear end ratio and tire size when ordering. B

Does anyone know how this works? An eight speed auto would be cool. It would make the 3.75's (far future) seem like my stock 2.59's on the highway. So it would pay for itself but are there any performance gains fom this.

Looks like the OD add on the 4+3 has. They are known for poor reliability.

Damn that sounds awesome... I heard of BMW coming out with a six speed automatic, but an 8 speed conversion for our cars would rule.

These have been around for quite awhile- they're very strong and reliable- one of their bigger markets is upgearing concrete trucks. Does seem like a lot of work trying to split the gears for 8 speeds, tho- you'd have to switch it on and off in each of the four gears.... I'd wind up using it just as one effective 20% overdrive.
