Default Transmission Flush?

I am in the process of getting my transmission (automatic) rebuilt and want to make sure it is properly maintained in the future. I have heard both positive and negative on getting the transmission flushed. Some say it hurts the tranny and others highly recommend it . Any comments on getting it or not getting it done? If the answer is yes, at what intervals; every ?? miles, every xx months, every xx years?

Since I track mine I change the fluid every year. Next year I will start changing it more as I want to hit the track twice as much. I just put a hose on the top cooler line and let the car pump out some fluid then add more in. This is very easy.

I got the tranny of my 92 A4 flushed at around 90,000 miles. Now it's over 155,000 miles, and still working very strong. I'm planning on replacing it this winter just because.

for what it's worth my local shop stopped using their flushing machine because of the problems they started creating.I think the feeling is that it's ok to do regular changes from new or after rebuild but bad on older vehicles with no history. It seems theres a distinct possibility of loosening up grunge that can go on to cause more problems.

That is what I've heard/experienced. We had an old '89 Impala with 80k mi and it never been serviced. Two weeks after the service, the trans started to slip very badly.

I think its a mixed bag. If the pan is dropped and the filter replaced I have no problem with a flush. My understanding is that the filter is left in place, if that is correct then I don't think that much of it. Additionally, you cant rewind the history of neglect.
