Default Installing a Cam in LT1

would it be better to take the motor out or take everything off the front and leave the motor in?

A lot of guys leave the motor in. You'll have to undo the forward engine mounts and tilt it upwards to clear the car, but changing the cam can certainly be done with the engine still in the car. That's how my HotCam was installed.

Did you jack the engine up or did you use an engine lift? Where would you place the jack? I remember reading that others had trouble getting it ligned up right or later damaging the engine without removing the engine. That may have been F-Body's, not sure.

All you need to do to raise the engine is, loosen the motor mounts, and put a block of wood under the oil pan with a flloor jack. It only needs to come up ma couple of inches.
