NEW GUY HERE I have a 96 lt4 the service engine light came on i drove to a local auto zone they did a code scan a p0300 code apperared the car had an obvious missfire i looked under the hood to see if anything out of the norm stood out i saw that 1 of the ignition wires were melted from rubbing against the header i probably knocked it loose from detailing the engine bay just a couple days prior to this happening I ordered 8mm taylor wires
complete set from summit with spacers my mechanical abilities are basic at best.my question is in order for me to change the wires will i have to remove the water pump to connect the wires to the distributor from looking at it im not sure im quessing more towards yes if that be the case im not messing with it,it looks like a potential headache for myself maybe a job for the professionals ANY ADVICE WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED

been there on my 95. you don't need to remove the water pump, just need patients and small hands. The local dealer says it should take 4 hrs. That's a lot of money! good luck
Just changed the wires on my 94 LT1 but should be similar. I was able to change the passenger side pretty easily from above the car; could even see the Opti. My brother (6'4" about 230) was able to do the driver side from underneath the car. He had to do it by feel as he couldn't see the opti but it worked out fine. This is about the only job we have felt was easier than the forum consensus. YMMV.
