So... Awhile back I was going through my fuses and I saw one was blown. Looked it up. And it said it was my "Air pump". So I went out and spent 5 fricken dollars on a single fuse.
I put the new fuse in. Turned the car on and self destruction soon pursued!
I heard a loud screeching then a small pop. And the noise was gone. Look at the fuse. And it was blown again.
NOW FOR THE REAL QUESTION!
I am purchasing Melrose headers and I dont want to spend the 50+ dollars on the AIR fitting... Do I need it? And how do I delete the air pump? What is its purpose? Should I fix the problem?
Arent the LT1 air pumps electric? Wonder if your pump is shot and thats whats blowing the fuse, sounds like it. Maybe an air delete bracket is in your future.

Can you go into detail on where I can get one. And why it an Air pump is even necessary on a car?... I know its an emissions thing... but is that it?
I had the same problem on my 95. I just pulled the pump and any hoses attached to it and pluged the hose at the header. The check engine light will come on but it will not hurt anything. The pump is used to pump air in to the exhaust to help emissions. Before I got a PCMforless tune I removed the check engine light bulb so it would not bother me. The plug wire for the pump was left were to was and the fuse was pulled. I had no problems in doing so. No air delete bracket is needed for the LT1.
I'm going with Melrose headers as well. You can remove your EGR valve and use block off plates. I found some on ebay and the have your PCM tuned to not look for the codes.sorry phone camera pics.

Thanks Jmac! The pics are a GREAT help!
When I spoke to chris at melrose he said the ERG is not integrated into the header system. Why would I need to pull and block the valve?
Air pump is used to help light off the O2's and CAT. The extra air creates an afterburner effect getting it to closed loop faster. On the L98's, it continues to pump air to the CAT after closed loop. It has nothing to do with EGR which lowers combustion temps and keeps your motor from holing a piston. You either have too much of a load on this circuit or there's a dead short. Inspect wiring. Otherwise, particularly if it has a lot miles, replace the motor.
