I want my 84' Vette to lobe a little at an idle, but not skake apart the already shaken apart car. How do I know what CAM I need? Are there any charts that cover this. I know they cover performance, but what about idle and sound etc. Maybe there are some here who "Just Know."
I have been doing a LOT of research on this and I am going to get http://www.lingenfelter.com/store/lpe-74220.html
It will need some other mod's nothing huge. Chip is a must. Lingenfelters book goes into great detail and is a great read; I suggest you pick up the book it will help in a number of different concepts. I picked one up at Barnes and Noble for a few bucks
The '84 crossfire injection makes this somewhat of a difficult question.. whats "lope" to some of us is considered "shake" to others.. very subjective terms.
My recommendation would be to call the comp cams tech line tell them the year, gear ratio weight of your car, and any other modifications (stall converter, exhaust etc..etc..) and they should be able to put your on the right track!

There is no simple answer. the cam must go along with the heads, gearing, transmission setup (converter stall or stick?), ECM PROGRAMMING, intake flow, head port flow, and valve springs.
Anything over 230 degrees at .050" is gonna have a little 'lope' at idle, but also require bigger springs than your (193?) heads have, also your max lift is about .470" with the stock heads. Your intake flow probably won't want a 230 degree cam, and is it auto or stick because the stock converter is gonna bog you leaving every light.
