Default Radio works part time

I reciently purchased a 96 CE 6speed in July. October rolled in, check eng. light
came on and the radio would not function by the controls. The distributor
failed causing the check eng. soon. The radio control (dash unit) I pulled and
sent out for repair, as the GM manual stated. The radio checked out OK.
Currently the controls are not working again. Any ideas on the radio problem
would be appreciated.

p.s. The service eng. soon light came back on last night after
110 casual miles. :mad

welcome aboard!!!

I would suspect the receiver unit is causing your radio problem... it is burried under the dash behind the airbag. I guess... it is there in my 92!!! It could also be a bad harness or electrical problem... just a guess.

The SES light might be caused by a stored code... Pull the code and see what it is... if it is new, address it, if not, pull the + cable off the battery for about 10-20 minutes, and that will allow the ECU to reset. I don't know the exact procedure to pull the code on the 96...

Radio receiver in a '96 is under the storage tray behind the passengers seat. I replaced mine in the '94 only to have the main unit go out about 3 months later. I said the heck with the BLOWS and went aftermarket.
