I was looking through the Summitt catalogue this morning and I saw an ad for 350 Chevy rebuild kits that, among some other stuff, included forged SpeedPro pistons, "Stage II" rods, Clevite 77 berings, and FelPro gaskets. The Stage II rods are forged but I'm not sure who makes them.
All in all it sounds like a good deal! Something like $700 or so for the whole kit. +$200 for a new cast crank is offered also. Does anyone know anything about these kits from Summitt? Also, is it true that SpeedPro = TRW? All the part numbers for the SpeedPro items started with TRW...
The stage II rods are not forged. They are stock rods with the beams polished. the prices are not bad, but you are getting nothing more than a stock rebuild...maybe a hair better with the forged piston option, but even these forged pistons are the bottom of the barrel pistons.
JMHO,
